Podcasting

While podcasting is very straightforward there are some things you will need to get you started and the first thing you will need is something to record on.

By their nature many podcasts can have a DIY feel to them; audio quality sometimes taking a back seat to the quality of the actual content.  With this in mind you can actually record your content from something as basic as your mobile phone.

However you may want to consider investing in something which will give a bit more of a professional look to those you are interviewing and which has dedicated recording mics on board and/or connections for external mics without stretching your budget too far.

This is where I can help by offering free advice on the equipment best suited to get you up and running.  For instance I can recommend the Tascam DR-05 as a basic entry level recording device or for a larger budget there is the Tascam DR-40.  This second one has the benefit of a dual recording function at two different decibel levels so if one version of your recording distorts through high gain input your second lower level acts as a backup.  Both can be found easily online.

I can also offer free advice on how to go about planning the kind of programme which you would like to make.

After this point you are of course free to go out and begin your podcasting career on your own or you can retain my services in the production process.

I offer editing, mixing and mastering of your final podcast using the industry standard Digital Audio Workstations Pro Tools and Reaper and will render your programme for you in WAV, MP3 or FLAC format; or all three if you like.

My rate for completion of the post production process is £12 per hour.

Audio Drama/Audio Books

If you would like to have an audio drama produced you will obviously already have a script which you may have written or possibly you would like to record something in the public domain and free from intellectual copyright.  I offer free advice at the initial consultation stage which would involve possible changes to the script especially if the script needs adapted from a visual to an audio medium and also to get an understanding as to what you are looking for in your production.

The main things you will require for your project is a recording studio and voice actors, both of which I can source for you.

Voice actor fees can vary according to experience and can run from prices which are reasonably accessible up to thousands of pounds.

The voice actors I regularly use work on the rate of £25 per hour and are all professionals based in Fife.

My own rates for drama production are £15 per hour.

This compromises of studio recording and direction, and in the post production process, editing, sound design (FX etc.), mixing and mastering.

Web Design

The website building programme I use is Wix.  Once your site has been created and is ready to go live you will be required to choose a subscription package from them for hosting your site and the cost of the package which you choose  will determine the overall final price.  The price of the packages they offer depend upon such things as storage capacity and the option to remove Wix adverts from your site.

They offer a range of packages which can be found here:

I can offer help and advice on which would be the best package suited to your specific needs.

There will be no payment for either the wix package or the site creation until the project is completed, approved by you and ready to be published.  I use my own Wix account to build the site and then transfer moderation of the site or I can retain dual moderation so I can offer assistance remotely if you need any alterations.

My flat rate for the creation of a website is £300.  This includes consultation at the outset of the project and regular meetings (if required) during the process to make sure that the site is progressing to the specifications of the client.

When the site has been approved and is ready to be published I also undertake the process of “search engine optimisation” to make sure that your site will easily located by search engines.

Video

For promotional video production the process would involve on location filming for interviews and the acquisition of supplemental footage.   For the best results this would be done in room which was brightly lit with natural light.  Post production can include a variety of optional royalty free musical media added to your project.

Film production can be time intensive but will ultimately depend on what your project is.  Were you to request a five to ten minute promotional piece this can be returned to you fully completed a week after filming has taken place.   Anything longer than this would have to be discussed to make sure it will suit your time frame.

My fee for filming and editing is £15 per hour.
